Chipotle Chili Ground Turkey Meal Prep

This ground turkey recipe is jam packed with flavor thanks to one main ingredient. The Chipotle chili pepper adds a tremendous amount of smoky sweet flavor that really makes this turkey recipe special. It tastes delicious for meal prep whether you put it on rice bowls, in salads, tacos or even in quesadillas.

I am not  big meat eater and usually turkey was only something I ate when my family celebrated Thanksgiving. Within the past few years though my boyfriend was really looking for cheaper, leaner meats to add to his diet and he started eating a lot of ground turkey. He’d liberally douse it in worcestershire and a mix of spices and bake it for his meal prep. I kid you not he ate it that way for over a YEAR (more like years, if I am being honest). That is like food torture for me so I can’t even imagine doing that. So I kinda (lovingly) pushed him into trying new recipes and he found one that has stood the test of time.

SIDENOTE: Can we talk about the word “worcestershire”, I mean that is just a WORD ya know. Like it has a certain way about it… A way about it that is annoying because I can never remember how to spell it.

My boyfriend eventually found this ground turkey recipe from a popular fitness youtuber, Shaun B. Ottley. In the recipe, Shaun made the chipotle chili turkey into a salad with lettuce, kidney beans, and cheddar cheese. It is so simple, and some might even say a bit of a weird combo, but lemme just say this salad was BEYOND delicious. It didn’t even need dressing because even lean ground turkey has enough fat to oomph up any ingredients it shows up alongside.  Sadly, the direct link to that recipe is not available because it was originally created as a youtube video which has since been deleted, but you can check still out Shaun’s instagram or his youtube.

This chipotle chili powder is such an amazing little spice, it isn’t spicy like you’d think. Instead it is very smoky with sweet undertones. If you’ve ever eaten smoked meats then you know just how much flavor they have, but now add on some sweetness to that flavor profile. It is really just out of this world. It is almost like a smoked jerky.

I use usually dislike recipes that call for very specific ingredients but in this case I strongly recommend this one and also you can easily incorporate this spice into other recipes. Soups, stews, taco meats, even roasted veggies would all benefit from a sprinkle of this spice. I recommend this specific brand shown in the photos because that is what I use and love. Please note that this is not a spice blend, it is only a single ingredient (chili pepper).

Now I have eaten this turkey recipe in a variety of ways but my absolute favor has to be in my take on a hamburger salad. I’ll be posting that recipe next week so stay tuned for that! It features this delicious smoky sweet ground turkey recipe in addition to juicy summer tomatoes, cheddar and a delicious briny yet creamy dressing.
