Cheddar and Dill Tuna Oven Melt

Easy recipe that works during any time of day and provides 30 grams of protein!! Cheddar and dill dress up the tuna flavors. The oven does all of the hard work: toasting the bread, warming the tuna, and broiling the cheddar! A satisfying AND healthy meal in less than 10 minutes!

Even though I was born and raised in California, it seems that has taken me forever to try classic American dishes. I grew up eating traditional Romanian foods and when we went out to eat my family always opted for other ethnic foods (HUGE portions, low prices = family friendly).

Pecan pie made an appearance when I was 13, when my brothers American girlfriend brought it over. After tasting pumpkin pie for the first time I realized my tastebuds had been robbed for 16 years. Oh and the pumpkin pie only happened because this was my first Thanksgiving after leaving home, so my sister and I branched out to American desserts.

And to get back on topic for this post, I had my first tuna melt THIS YEAR. These photos you see here are legitimately my first tuna melt. I gotta say, I am going to be bitter about the fact that I haven’t been eating this for the past 23 years. (Don’t even bring up the pie situation, I’m still making up lost time on that one!) Tuna is ridiculously healthy and an amazing source of protein.

I think I was always going to love tuna melts, I just didn’t know it yet. For one, it has mayonnaise (aka Romanias favorite condiment). Secondly it combines tuna with toasty bread and broiled cheese. Now, I need to mention that I did burn the above toast because I forgot that you need to take food out after broiling, not just turn the dang broiler off. I’d like to put it forward that no future tuna melts were harmed by the broiler/my ignorance.

You can really make this tuna adaptable to any flavor profile by swapping out the fresh herbs and cheese for your favorites but I think dill and cheddar are so special together. Also, let this post be yet another sign that you need to eat more dill. Romanians add it to practically everything, and I think you should too.
